… found washed upon the shore
I don’t know how I stumbled upon this little piece of genius, all I know is I did and I’ve been obsessively inspired ever since. Iain Thomas (aka The Copy Ninja) is the brains behind the lyrically beautiful blog: I Wrote This For You (IWTFY). He has a whole bunch of other blogs, a beard and a book entitled ‘Ignite’ which he wrote when he was only 23. The 30-something South African began IWTFY as a collaborative project with a friend in Japan (who he’s never met – thank you, internet) whereby his friend sends a photograph and he writes a short story beneath (which has to feature the word ‘you’ in it somewhere). It’s been a wildly successful endeavour: stirring readers since 2007, it earned him a TEDx (Johannesburg) spot in 2009 and this year, a publishing contract with ireadiwrite. I’m so impressed I signed up for my first RSS feed – I now get IWTFY posts delivered straight to my inbox.

A self confessed nerd (aren’t we all?), he likes reading comic books, skateboards, writing (clearly) and has ‘This is Water’ tattooed on his arm. We need more people like him. Thank you, Iain.
